Martin’s first association with the Industrial Archaeology started at the age of 4 when watching steam trains at Iver station (near Slough) with his Dad. At 21 he was at agricultural college in Shropshire and used to drink at “The Norbury Junction” where two canals met. He and five other students hired a narrowboat the next summer and toured Shropshire d the Llangollen Canals. He has been poking about with railways canals, mines and other industries ever since.

Many years later he worked as a funding advisor for the Vale of White Horse District Council and as part of his job attended the Finance Committee of the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust. When he took early retirement in 2005 the Trust said would he like to continue as a volunteer...? (And you can guess the rest)
