Meetings include a talk on a topic of general interest to most family historians interested in computers and given by a speaker who is an acknowledged authority on that subject. The main talk is generally followed by refreshments and then questions.
A selection of books, CDs, fiche and other items from the society bookshop are available.
Questions relating to family history and/or computers will try to be answered at the help desk prior to the start of the talk and during the refreshement break. Normally the help desk will have a laptop with Internet access.

Other Branch Activities
Public benefit is central to the work of all charities and each branch of Berkshire Family History Society plays its own part in delivering that benefit.
Advice Sessions
Computer Branch members provide advice on the second Tuesday of every month between 2.00-4.00pm at Woodley Library in Headley Road, Woodley. You can bring your family history questions to these sessions and get some fresh ideas and answers on how you can move your research forward.
From time to time, similar events are held at other locations in the area.

Talks to community groups
A few local society members give talks on family history research to community groups. Organisations that engage such speakers are invited to make a donation to the society in lieu of a speaker fee.
Projects
Projects are a vital part of the work of the society. They are important in helping to preserve historic records and making information from those records accessible to a wider public. Without such project work, there would be few if any accurate indexes or transcripts accessible to you as a family historian.
The Computer branch is working on producing a CD including transcripts and images of the memorial inscriptions in the churchyard of Woodley St John.
