Beginners' Family History Course: Session 1 - Tutor: Margaret Crook (Fri. 12 Oct, 2018 11:00 am - 1:00 pm)

A series of four workshops designed for those new to researching family history.  Where to start, how to progress your research and good research practice are all explained.

Now tutored by Gillian Stevens and Chad Hanna.

The course explores different genealogy websites and looks at the content they offer and which are better for particular kinds of records.  It covers civil registration, parish registers, wills, censuses, plus emigration and some overseas records unless participants agree otherwise.  It briefly examines benefits and limitations of some of the family history programs available to record your research.

For attendees wishing to do some family research whilst visiting the Centre, the Research Zone computers will be available until 3pm.

BOOK: £30 for four weekly sessions - 12th October, 19th October, 26th October and 2nd November.  (Members £24) includes tea or coffee.  Places limited, pre-booking required.
