'Grand Houses' 5th Talk of series (Sat. 8 Jun, 2019 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

The Duke of Wellington's Country House at Stratfield Saye: with Brigadier Michael Aris CBE DL and Richard Bennett DL

We are delighted to welcome two eminent speakers to close our series of talks on 'grand houses'.  Both are well qualified to talk about Stratfield Saye House, as both work there as tour guides.  Both have also been appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire, Brigadier Aris in 2005 and Richard Bennet in 2018.

Stratfield Saye House and grounds consist of 5,000 acres and its history can be traced to before William the Conqueror.  The house owes much of its style to George Pitt who played a pivotal role in its development.  Prince Albert and Queen Victoria visited often and in January 1845 stayed for 3 days.  It is a House where the presence of the Great Duke is felt to this day.  Find out more at what is sure to be a fascinating talk.

For attendees wishing to do some research while visiting The Centre, the Research Zone computers will be open from 1pm.

TICKETS: £5 (members £4) includes tea and cake.  Advanced booking is recommended but you can pay on the door (subject to availability).

Book all five talks in the series for the discounted price of £20 (members £16).  Members can obtain the discount using the coupon code published in their current Berkshire Family Historian.

Other talks in this series on 11th and 25th April, 9th and 23rd May.
