Welcome. The Centre for Heritage and Family History is the home of Berkshire Family History Society. You will find us on the second floor of Reading's Central Library.

The Research Zone offers the county's best family history research facility

The Events Area  provides an events and activities facility, with a lively and varied programme suitable for all family historians (wherever their experience and interests), for local historians and others who just want to find out more about the past.

AFTERNOON TALKS to inform and entertain you, with tea and cake too — feature expert speakers with an enthusiasm and flair for their subjects.

The current series of talks features some of Berkshire's former 'Shops and Businesses' — from Tudor times to the 20th century.

A selection of Berkshire's 'Grand Houses' featured from April to June. The year began with five talks taking 'Transport' as a broad theme.

GUIDED WALKS and TOURS throughout the year

SATURDAY WORKSHOPS   A wide range of family history linked subjects are covered during the year.

COURSES From Starting your Family History and Understanding old handwriting to Basic Latin for family historians, courses are organised regularly. Contact the Booking Administrator to secure your place.

DNA discussion group Started meets quarterly.

Informal discussion group meets monthly at The Centre on the first Tuesday evening from 18.45.

LUNCHTIME drop-in sessions No booking needed, just turn up with your questions and get help on various aspects of your research. 

GROUP VISITS to The Centre are welcomed (to include a talk, if required) by prior arrangement.

Those who join the society as members enjoy savings at once on their individual ticket for talks, and on fees for other events, where payable. A useful benefit that makes membership such good value.
