Welcome. The Centre for Heritage and Family History is the home of Berkshire Family History Society at Reading Central Library. It is the new focal point for a wide range of events and activities designed for family historians (wherever their interests), for local historians and for others who simply enjoy learning more about the past.

FIVE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON TALKS with tea and cake, and featuring expert speakers with a passion and flair for their subject to inform and entertain you. This next series of talks turns its attention to The English Civil War, chosen to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the siege of Reading in April 1643.

GUIDED WALKS in Reading in March (fully booked) and June

TOURS of The Centre for Heritage and Family History The first series has now concluded. Tours are available for groups (with associated talks if required) by prior arrangement.

LUNCHTIME Drop-in sessions for help on different areas of research. Coming up soon — Breaking down brickwalls, Military records and research, Thames Valley records and East Anglian records. No booking needed, just bring your questions along.

TUESDAY EVENING ‘Natter Groups’ (informal discussion at The Centre on the first Tuesday evening in the month)

WORKSHOPS on census records, school records and other topics for family historians

Introduction to DNA testingand, a later follow-up session, what to do with the results

Some of these are FREE to attend.

For others, a modest fee is payable. When you join the society, as a member you enjoy discounts on fees for events where fees are payable. Just one more benefit that makes membership such good value.
