The society’s library holds over 4,500 items, only 20% of which are Berkshire related. Most of the material covers other English counties, and Wales, Scotland, Ireland, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION The library has recently been reorganised in preparation for the society's move from Yeomanry House in November. The library itself will be closed from Thursday, 12th October, and the Research Centre from Thursday, 16th November.

The society is relocating to Reading Central Library. All services and facilities are expected be available once again for researchers' use at the library by Tuesday, 5th December.

International Genealogical Index (1988) on microfiche for Great Britain

CDs of Berkshire MIs, overseers’ papers, militia lists, directories

Local history and genealogy books for other UK counties, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and some other countries

National Index of Parish Registers volumes for most English counties

Family history reference books covering all aspects of research, from books for beginners to key reference sources, such as the Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers, and specialist titles that include criminal records, education, electoral registers, electoral rolls and poll books, local history, maps and cartography, military, occupations, palaeography, photographs, Poor Law, surnames and wills.

Directories include biographical, trade, professional, military, clerical and school

Published family histories/pedigrees and a large number of donated personal compilations and hand-written documents

Copies of the society's magazine, the Berkshire Family Historian, from 1975 to the present, and Windsor, Slough and District FHS publications pre-dating that society’s amalgamation with Berkshire Family History Society
