If so, then visit The Centre for Heritage and Family History with its dedicated team of volunteers during Heritage Open Days. Wherever in the world your ancestors came from – we can help.

The Centre's computers are your gateway to millions of records, including free access to key websites you normally have to pay to use — like Ancestry Worldwide, Findmypast, the 1939 Register, the British Newspaper Archive and The Genealogist — and a host of other websites giving you information on emigration, First World War casualties, Irish ancestors, wills and much, much more...

The Centre also offers you an extensive reference library, a dedicated exhibition area, a comprehensive local and family history bookshop, and helpful research guides.

The Least you need to know about Family History

You want to draw up your family tree but don't have much time right now?
This short talk will focus on the information and memorabilia held by your family and friends that you need to collect and protect now so that it will be available to you in the future when you have some time for research.

Pre-book the talk if you can, to avoid disappointment as places are limited. You can turn up on the day, subject to places remaining available.

Disabled Access

Blue badge parking is available directly in front of the library building. The second floor is accessible by lift for everyone.

There is a maximum of 20 places available per talk/session. There will be lovely cakes waiting for you in the refreshment area and hot and cold drinks too.
