Computing Surgeries

Computing Surgeries
for Family Historians

open to everyone.

Formal Surgery sessions are no longer held. Instead computing questions can be posed to 'our experts' who are present on Tuesday evenings and 2nd Sunday afternoons at
The Research Centre in Yeomanry House, off Castle Hill, READING.

It may help if you phone (on 0118-957-3353) with advance warning if you think your problem is obscure and requires us to do some homework.

We run Workshops when required. The Internet can be accessed at any time during open hours.

Our 'doctors, surgeons and specialists' include:

Chad Hanna (hardware), Clive Killick (Family Tree Maker), Eddie Spackman (Family History software), Gillian Stevens (CD data), Terry Wickenden (data bases and software for beginners) and Phil Wood . These 'experts' will give advice and answer your questions (or recommend a person who can).

They will also be able to suggest answers to problems relating to eMail, the Internet and web-sites (including the LDS FamilySearch site - IGI etc, the 1901 census, FHOL etc).

Also try us with questions such as:

What do those 'stupid' computer messages mean?

Why do I get that 'blue screen' ?

How can I do . . . . . with the 1881 census?

How should I upgrade my hardware?

What software do you recommend to do . . . .?

Which computer program should I use to store my Family History information?

How can I avoid getting viruses?

How do I install a Home Network?

How do I install . . . .?

You may bring your computer (just the processor box as we can supply monitor, keyboard and mouse) to demonstrate your problem.

Just turn up
