Family History Workshop
'Family History for All'
Saturday 13th October 2007
The Learning Zone, Wokingham Library,
Denmark Street, Wokingham, RG40 2BB
Just drop in between 10.00am and 2.00pm

Get one-to-one help and advice on your research at this free event from members of the Berkshire Family History Society and staff from Berkshire Record Office. The day aims to help all family historians, from beginners to the more experienced - wherever your ancestors may have come from. Why not drop in and talk through your research questions and 'brickwalls' with people who may be able to offer you some alternative lines of approach?

The local studies/family history area of Wokingham's main library provides an excellent venue for the event. As well as having full access to the library's extensive printed and electronic resources, including microfilm and microfiche records, the event will use eight dedicated computer terminals to provide fast internet access, with Berkshire FHS members on hand to give you some tips on useful websites and how to search them most effectively.

During the day there will be three informal teaching sessions in the library's training suite, each lasting about 45 minutes with 12 places available per session. These are intended to provide an introductory, 'hands-on' overview to particular aspects of research. The topics are:

10.30am Making a start in the archives
11.45am Which websites do I use first?
1.00pm Searching sources before 1837

You can pre-book a place at one of these sessions by calling the library on 0118 978 1368. In all cases, you will need to be familiar with using a PC and searching on the internet.

You may wish to browse the bookstall, offering general family history titles, Berkshire material and Berkshire FHS publications for sale. Or you could look at family history items on display and a variety of demonstrations taking place in the event area throughout the day. Free charts and other materials will also be available.

With a fourth series of Who Do You Think You Are? on the BBC TV schedule this autumn, why not drop in on Saturday 13th October to gather some answers to that WDYTYA? question about your family history?
