Birth Briefs

Birth Briefs (see sample) are five-generation ancestral charts that members of the Berkshire FHS are given the opportunity of submitting. Fully completed charts contain the names and vital records - birth/christening, marriage and death/burial - of the submitting member and up to 30 ancestors.

The Birth Briefs are being computerised for easy search and retrieval. At July 2003 there were over 13,000 names in the data-base and more continue to be added. We expect the complete set of Birth Briefs to have been computerised by the end of 2003.

The index can be searched and gives names with vital records by year and county. For persons born less than 110 years ago and for whom there is no death record dates are replace by '....'.

It should be remembered that many entries have no connection with Berkshire except that a descendent is a member of BerksFHS.

On finding a name in which you are interested, there are two options:

• order a computer printout The cost is £2 for each Ancestor report generated from PAF. A GEDCOM file copy can also be supplied by eMail if you give your eMail address.

• contact the submitter if s/he is a current member. This is indicated by an asterisk (*) after the Birth Brief identifier (BBid). An (E) indicates that we can forward an eMail to this member.
