The Centre Opening Times and Location Activities Research Services Virtual Tour

Our Research Centre
is on Castle Hill in Reading
It is open to all - have you visited it? We have over 7,200 items on the shelves - see the catalogue of titles.
About 20% relate to Berkshire and the rest mostly to other areas in the UK. This includes the 1988 IGI and 1881 census on fiche.

Yeomanry House - rear view of BerksFHS Research Centre

The rear of our Research Centre at Yeomanry House viewed from the car park. A line sketch of the front of Yeomanry House is at the top of our home page.

The entrance to the Berkshire Record Office can be seen at the left.
The Research Centre (adjacent to the Berkshire Record Office and in the same building as the Reading Register Office) is open 3 days and 1 evening each week and the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month - except over Christmas and the New Year.

There is a computer suite with broadband Internet and access to Ancestry Library edition. Facilities for reading and printing both microfiche and microfilm are available.

Assistants

Each session at the Centre requires two assistants, one of which we hope will  be able to provide basic help on the use of the computers. If each assistant helps out on one day each month we would need about 70 assistants - could you help?.

In the event that only one assistant is available, three CCTV cameras allow the assistant to be aware of what is happening in the Centre.

Committee

The Research Centre committee meets every few weeks to review the operation of the Centre and consider plans and suggestions for the future.
