TECHNICAL NOTES: Berkshire Baptisms is in Adobe Reader format. Should you not have Adobe Reader version 7.0 or above installed on your computer you can obtain it at no cost from www.adobe.com. Users of Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 are recommended to use Adobe Reader and not the inbuilt PDF reader installed with these operating systems. The dataset makes extensive use of bookmarks for rapid navigation and the inbuilt reader makes this difficult.

The First Edition of Berkshire Baptisms contained transcriptions of almost 160,000 baptism entries from registers and Bishops Transcripts of 58 parishes. This new edition brings around 64 per cent more entries than its predecessor. The society’s baptism project aims to deliver accurate transcriptions of baptism entries from Berkshire’s parish baptism registers (not simply an index to them). This project is ongoing and aims to eventually cover all parishes and possible event periods. Some Bishops' Transcripts are included, especially where these entries differ from those in the original baptism register or where gaps exist in the periods covered by the register. Full details of parishes and periods covered in this latest edition can be found below.

Berkshire Baptisms Second Edition CD offers you:

  • Three finding aidsNames by Date, All Names by Name and Officiating Ministers
  • Full details in one fully searchable transcription dataset

Berkshire Record Office (Reading) holds original parish registers for most of the "old" county of Berkshire (including the Vale of the White Horse and North Berkshire/Abingdon area).

Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre (Chippenham) holds surviving early Bishops’ Transcripts for most of Berkshire (to 1835).

When you purchase a Berkshire Baptisms Second Edition CD, you become automatically entitled to a substantial discount on the full price of the next published Edition - (conditions apply).
