Berkshire War Memorials

This CD holds transcriptions of nearly 750 war memorials found in nearly every corner of 'old' Berkshire and covering not only World Wars 1 and 2 but also the Boer War, Korea, Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Afghanistan. Names from all Anglican Church memorials and village and town monuments were transcribed in the 1990s, although some of these now have additional names from recent conflicts. There are also war memorials in non-conformist churches, post offices, police stations, hospitals, schools and places of work that are still to be located and transcribed.

The names of over 30,000 people on the war memorials have been transcribed and listed and facilities to search by name and by place are included. The transcriptions represent the hard work of society volunteers over many years. The transcriptions were issued on microfiche many years ago but these are no longer available. More recently volunteers have revisited the sites of the memorials and taken photographs of them in their locations. Colour photographs of about 30% of the war memorials are included on the CD.

Work on additional transcriptions will continue as further memorials are identified and researched. More photographs are being collected. Further editions of the Berkshire War Memorials CD will be published when the amount of additional material warrants it. Purchasers of this Berkshire War Memorials CD will entitle the owner to a discount on the full price of the next edition (and conditions apply).
