Berkshire War Memorials

This updated CD holds transcriptions of some 900 war memorials found across 'old' Berkshire and covering not only the First and Second World Wars but also the Boer War, Korea, Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Afghanistan. There are 150 memorials that are new to this CD, all of which have accompanying photographs. The price of the Second Edition CD is £20 (for current society members, a discount on this price is available).

Many Anglican Church memorials and village and town monuments were first transcribed in the 1990s, although some of these now carry added names following recent conflicts. There are inevitably further war memorials — in non-conformist churches, post offices, police stations, hospitals, schools and places of work — to be identified, transcribed and photographed.

The names of nearly 32,600 people on some 900 war memorials are transcribed and listed, with facilities to search by name and by place.

The transcriptions represent the hard work of society volunteers over many years. Transcriptions were first issued on fiche many years ago but these are no longer available.

More recently, volunteers have revisited the memorials and taken photographs of them in their locations. Colour photographs of 56 per cent of the war memorials are included on this new edition of the CD.

Further transcribing and photography go on as 'new' memorials continue to be identified and researched. Another updated edition of the Berkshire War Memorials CD will be published when the quantity of new material warrants this.

Those who purchased the First Edition CD of Berkshire War memorials may  purchase an updated CD for just £5, (terms and conditions apply).
