Newbury Essential Information

Newbury Branch meets on the second Wednesday evening of the month (except July and August) at:

St Mary's Church Hall

Church Lane

Doors open at 7.10 pm, and meetings begin at 7.30 pm.

FREE car parking adjacent to the centre.

For registered charities, provision of public benefit is a legal requirement. It follows that visitors are always welcome at Branch meetings and events. Where they can afford to do so, visitors are encouraged to donate £3 when attending a meeting. This is a suggested contribution towards costs incurred by the society in arranging local activities.

The church does not have a postcode. For SatNav guidance, use RG14 2DR, but please be aware that the church is 100 metres beyond this point.

How to find St Mary's Church Hall
(This uses the Streetmap website and opens a new tab or window)

Most meetings include a talk on a topic of general interest to most family historians and given by a speaker who is an acknowledged authority on that subject. There are also news items.

A branch lending library is brought to most meetings and items from the society's bookshop can be ordered for collection at the next meeting. The main talk is generally followed by questions and then refreshments. Meetings usually end by 9.30 pm.

Go to the Events Calendar for details about forthcoming meetings. A few summaries of talks given at recent society meetings can be seen on the branch meetings summaries page. Many more are available in the Members' Area of this website (registration required).

Other Branch activities including Advice sessions

Branch members provide regular help and advice sessions in locations across West Berkshire, including Newbury Library. See calendar for details.

The branch organises occasional trips to destinations such as The National Archives and county record offices.
