'The English Civil War' - 1645-1660: Civil War to Commonwealth - a talk by John Brearley (Wed. 6 Jun, 2018 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Afternoon talks filled with history and cake.

Five fortnightly talks each quarter - many around a theme - this quarter 'The English Civil War'. This is the fifth and final talk in the series.

Formerly a teacher, John Brearley is a popular and charismatic speaker on local history topics across Berkshire.  Accompanied by slides and music, John will talk about the Civil War and the Commonwealth period through to the restoration of the monarchy.  During these years, the first Council of War was held in Reading, and Charles I was briefly held in captivity in Caversham, before his eventual execution.  Find out more, at what is set to be a fascinating and entertaining talk. 

Tickets: £5 non-members or £4 members per talk.  This includes tea or coffee and cake.  Book all five sessions in a quarter for the bargain price of four.  Booking in advance is highly recommended, but turn up and you can pay on the day, if places are still available.
