London Metropolitan Archives (Sat. 14 Jul, 2018 11:00 am - 4:45 pm)

A trip to the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is being organised by Bracknell & Wokingham Branch on Saturday, 14th July.
LMA is home to an amazing range of documents, images, maps, films and books about London.  Records at the LMA cover over 900 years and include some of the most important sources for genealogical and academic studies in the Greater London area.  They include the archives of the City of London Corporation as well as collections formerly held by the Guildhall Library's Manuscripts and Prints and Maps Sections.
Whether you're tracing your family history or researching the history of your neighbourhood, if you're interested in London or Londoners, LMA is the place to visit!
The LMA is FREE to use, so come and join us.
Current exhibition - Picturing Forgotten London
Picturing Forgotten London uncovers London’s lost buildings, places that were once the toast of the capital or part of everyday life, left behind by generations of Londoners.  Prints, photographs and maps bring together a surprising record of the City, from the 1500s to the twentieth century.
From Columbia Market to the Devil’s Acre, riverside mansions to ragged schools, images created by a variety of artists will appear together for the first time to tell the story of a forgotten City.
Please see their website for the full range available:  https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/london-metropolitan-archives/visitor-information/Pages/default.aspx
There is a Visitors Lounge on the Mezzanine Floor where you can leave your coats and bags in lockable lockers.   Light refreshments and hot and cold drinks are also available from vending machines.  Food and drink can be consumed here (no food or drink is allowed in the public rooms).
If you are interested in joining us, please e-mail the branch - see inside front cover of the Historian. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.">

I've got my DNA results now what do I do? (Sat. 14 Jul, 2018 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Leader: Debbie Kennett - an internationally recognised expert, speaker and writer on genetic genealogy.

This workshop is a follow-up to the April 14th meeting which provided an introduction to DNA testing. We will look at the interpretation of your DNA test results and how you can get the most out of your matches. Participants are encouraged to bring along their results and ask questions.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is already fully booked. Contact the Booking Administrator (see below) if you would like your name to be added to a waiting list, in case of any cancellations.

The society is looking at ways to run a further workshop or workshops — this may be best done by looking at different types of test, or by considering the outputs of particular test providers. Check back here soon, for details will be published once the event(s) is/are finalised.

This workshop is to look at your DNA test results so please be sure to have your results before the workshop. A computer will be required and a limited number of computers and laptops will be available if you don't have a laptop.

Tickets: £10 non-members or £9 members. Booking in advance is essential.

Free parking available for attendees - contact events for details.

Contact the The Booking Administrator with any queries, or if you would like your name to be added to a waiting list in case of any cancellations, or if you would like to receive details of similar events taking place in future.
