Newbury Branch - Lord Craven of Hamstead Marshall and his trouble with the Commonwealth (Wed. 13 Feb, 2019 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

Most royalist nobility lost their estates in the Civil War, but Lord Craven of Hamstead Marshall was an exception. Manfred Brod, a historian who specialises in early-modern Berkshire, will explain how the extensive Craven land-holdings were regained.

Newbury Branch meets at Shaw Church Hall in Church Lane, Shaw RG14 2DR. Doors open from 7.10 and meetings start at 7.30 pm. Non-members invited to contribute £3 to costs. Free parking, and refreshments.

Vale Branch - Yesterday's Runways (Mon. 18 Feb, 2019 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

The Thames Valley and adjacent county areas contain the sites of many former airfields which are now truly 'Yesterday's Runways'. This talk outlines the development of airfields across the area from the 1930's and their peak numbers in World War II to their post war decline.  The layout structures and the historical importance of these iconic locations are illustrated and described.
